Learn the rules to the playing card game Rummy quickly and concisely - This video has no distractions, just the rules. The object of each hand is to get rid of all the cards in your hand. Setup. Using a standard deck of playing cards, with kings high and aces low, each player draws 1 card and the player with the lowest card is the first dealer. If there is a tie, try again. The dealer shuffles then deals based on the number of players: 10 cards for 2 players, 7 cards for 3 to 4 players, or 6 cards for 5 to 6 players. Players look at their own cards but keep them hidden from their opponents. The remaining cards are placed face down on the table, forming the “stock”. Discard top card of the stock faceup to form a discard pile. Beginning with the player to the left of the dealer and proceeding clockwise, each player’s turn begins by pickup one card from either the stock or the discard pile and adding it to their hand. If at any point in the game the stock pile runs out, the discard pile is shuffled to form a new stock pile. The last card in the new stock pile becomes the first card in the discard pile. After adding a card to your hand you have two optional plays: Melding and Laying Off. You make a meld by either having three or more of a kind or by having three or more of a run. A run is cards of the same suit in increasing or decreasing order. When you make a meld you must lay it face up on the table. Melding is optional and can only be done once a turn. You may also “lay off” during your turn by adding one or more cards from your hand to any meld already on the table. Laying Off is optional and there is no limit to the number of cards you can lay off. When you are finished melding and laying off you end your turn and must discard one card, face up, onto the discard pile. If you had drawn from the discard pile, you may not discard the same card you drew on that turn. The next player clockwise goes. When one player gets rid of all of the cards in their hand, all players stop and the player who went out receives points for the remaining cards in other player’s hands. Face cards are worth 10 points each, aces are worth 1, and numbered cards are worth their number. A player goes "rummy" when they get rid of all the cards in their hand in one turn, without having previously melded or laid off any cards. In this event, they receive twice as many points. The hand is now over. The role of dealer rotates clockwise by one and a new hand is dealt. This process repeats until a player reaches a predetermined point total or until you play a predetermined number of hands, at which time, the player with the most points wins. The object of each round is to get rid of all the tiles in your hand by forming them into sets and runs. A set is 3 or 4 tiles of the same number, but they must be in different colors. A run is 3 or more tiles of the same color in consecutive order. Place all the tiles face down in the center of the table and mix them up, or in the pouch if your game is that version. Each player picks a tile and the player with the highest number goes first then play proceeds clockwise. Return the tiles and mix them up, then each player picks 14 tiles and places them on their rack. The remaining tiles form the pool. On your turn, you lay down sets and runs in front of you. In order to initially place tiles on the table however, each player must make an initial play of at least 30 points in one or more sets and/or runs. These points must come from tiles in your rack and not from tiles already in play. A tile’s point value is equal to its numerical value and a joker is a wild and worth the point value of whatever tile it represents. After you have made your initial play of 30 or more points, you are then allowed to play your tiles on any player’s sets and runs so long as they fit. If, on your turn, you are unable to make a play, or you chooses not to, you must draw a tile from the pool and end your turn. You are not allowed to play the tile you just drew but must instead wait until your next turn before you can play. The first player to empty their rack calls “rummy-cube” and the round ends and points are scored. Each player is only allowed 2 minutes maximum per turn. If a player exceeds that time limit, then they draw a penalty tile and end their turn without playing. If you make an illegal play, then return the tiles to their correct spots and draw 3 penalty tiles. You are allowed to manipulate face up sets and runs from all the players in order to play, breaking them up and rearranging them so long as legitimate sets and runs remain at the end of the turn and that there are no left over incomplete sets or runs. For example, you can break off a fourth tile from a set and add it to tiles from your rack to create a new run. You can add a 4th tile to a run then break off a tile from it to make another set. You can split a run into 2 smaller runs by breaking them apart and adding the needed tile from your rack. You can also combine splits… and… do multiple splits. There are 2 jokers in the game. They can be used in place of any tile. You can swap a joker in play with the correct tile from your rack so long as the swap leaves the set or run complete AND the joker is used with other tiles from your rack in a new set or run. The penalty for having a joker in your rack at the end of a round if another player goes rummy-cube is minus 30 points. At the end of the round, points are scored. Each player loses points based on the combined value of the tiles left in their rack. The winner of the round, scores positive points equal to the combined value of all the remaining tiles in all the players’ racks. For example: player 1 loses 5 points, player 2 loses 16 points, player 3 loses 3 points, and Player 4 earns 24 points. The player with the most points after a predetermined number of rounds, wins.

A run is made up of 3 or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order. A set consists of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank. Using a standard deck of playing cards with King high and ace low, each player randomly draws a card and the player with the lowest card is the first dealer. The dealer shuffles and deals 10 cards, one at a time, to each player. Players look at their own cards but keep them hidden from their opponents. The dealer discards the top card of the deck face up in the center of the table to start a discard pile. Place the deck face down next to the discard called the stock. Beginning with the player who didn’t deal, and alternating turns, each player begins their turn by drawing the top card of either the stock or discard pile and adds it to their hand. Unless this is the first turn of the game. On the first turn, and only that turn, if the non-dealer doesn’t want the face up card in the discard, the dealer gets an opportunity to draw it and take a turn. Otherwise, the non-dealer continues their turn by discarding 1 card, faceup to the discard pile. Then the other player goes. Play continues until one player knocks or goes gin, at which point, at the end of their turn, they discard a card face down on the discard pile. A player goes gin when 10 cards in their hand are all simultaneously apart of a set or run. A single card may not be a part of a set AND a run simultaneously, you must pick one for it to belong with. Both players reveal their hands and the player who went gin receives points based on the unmatched cards in their opponent’s hand, called deadwood. Face cards are worth 10 points, Aces are worth 1 point, and number cards are worth their indicated number. The player who went gin also receives a bonus of 20 points. A player can knock when the unmatched cards in their hand, their deadwood, point value is equal to 10 or less. The knocking player lays their cards faceup on the table and their opponent can now layoff cards from their hand onto the appropriate corresponding sets or runs in the knocking player’s hand. You may not layoff to unmatched cards. Once you have finished laying off cards, the remaining unmatched cards point values for each player are compared. If the knocking player’s points are lower than their opponent, then they receive points equal to the difference. If the non-knocking player’s points are equal to or lower than the knocking player, then the knocker has been undercut and the non-knocking player receives points equal to the difference plus 10 bonus points. Whoever didn’t receive points, loses the hand and deals the next. Keep track of how many hands each player wins. Play continues until 1 player reaches 100 or more points, then the game ends. The player who ended the games receives 100 bonus points. If their opponent didn’t score a single point during the game, then they receive another 100 bonus points. Each player then receives 20 bonus points for each hand they won, these points do not count towards the 100 needed to end the game. The player with the lower score loses, and if playing for money, would pay the winner the difference in their point value.

Step-by-step process to pick a card from closed deck in Rummy. At the beginning of the game, the dealer shuffles the deck of cards and places it face down on the table. This is the closed deck. The dealer deals each player a set number of cards (usually 13 cards in Indian Rummy) from the closed deck. After the players have been dealt their cards, the dealer places the remaining cards from the closed deck face down on the table. The player to the left to the dealer gets the first chance to draw a card from the closed deck. They have to choose whether to take the top-most card from the closed deck or not. If the player decides not to take the topmost card from the closed deck, they can choose to pick the topmost card from the open deck. The open deck is created when the first card is discarded by the player to the dealer's right. If the player chooses to pick the topmost card from the closed deck, they have to take it without showing it to the other players. The player can then choose to discard one of their cards face up on the table, or keep the newly drawn card and discard another card. Once a player has drawn a card from the closed deck, it is the next player's turn to draw a card from either the closed deck or the open deck. The game continues in this way until one of the players has formed all of their cards into valid sets and sequences, and discards the final card to declare the game. The rules are simple and after just a few practice games, you will be playing Rummy like a pro. Now 13, card rummy is played with two decks. Each deck comprises 52 playing cards and one printed joker. If you've ever held a deck of cards, you know, there are four suits, clubs, spade diamonds and hearts. Now, each suit has 13 cards from all the way up to the king, the full picture cards. That's your Jack queen king and Ace Contains 10 points each and the other cards have the exact same value as the number printed on them. So 13 card Rummy can be played, but two to six players and the game starts after a quick shuffle with each player getting dealt 13 cards face down. once all the players have been done to their hand. Rest of the deck is placed upside down, and this forms the draw pile also known as the closed deck. A random card is pulled out from anywhere in the close deck and a set placed upwards. This card is the cut joker of the game. The jokers can be used to substitute any Card that you don't have. Then you are forming valid sequences and sets. As the value of joker Card is zero. It's the real point. The joker can be used in your pure sequence. Also, the card is not used as a joker and actually forms a pure sequence. Now the only way to win a game of 13 card rummy is to arrange all the 13 cards into valid sequences and sets. A sequence is a group of three or more cards of consecutive ranks from the same suit. A sequence can be pure or impure, but one pure sequence without a joker is a must. You can use one or more jokers to create impure sequences. Set is a group of three or more cards of the same rank from different suits. Once all the cards in your hand have reached this combination, you can declare the game and based on a valid declaration, you will be announced the winner. But don't forget to hit the decline button as soon as your Rummy is complete. The most popular type of 13 card rummy is points rummy where each point has a pre-decided value. The person who arranges their cards fastest takes their points tally to zero and wins.
