Welcome to part one of our honeymoon vlogs! Despite the heatwave, we had an amazing honeymoon in Rome. We stayed in the San Lorenzo district, a little bit outside of the centre of Rome, which we loved! Apart from the first day where we sat by the pool and sunbathed, we booked up our schedule with guided tours of the Vatican and St Peters Basilica, the Colloseum, the Ancient Forum, doing a fresh pasta making class in a small village, trying the best gelato EVER, and eating at amazing restaurants. Buongiorno my favourite people🩷 join us on a 2-day adventure in Rome. Out of all the beautiful and interesting cities that we have visited during our interrail trip, Rome must be my favourite. I can’t put my finger on one thing that makes it so special but just the overall vibe of the city is magical. It felt quite unreal to be visiting all of these legendary landmarks such as the Colosseum, Pantheon, Saint Peter’s church and more. This turned out to be such a dream trip and I can't wait to visit this city again. Hi babes! Day 1: Arrived at SOHO House Rome via train from Genoa, which I’ve decided are the best mode of travel. You can just show up 20 mins before your train, walk right on, and just relax until you get to your destination. In the US it seems like we only travel by car or plane but wasting a whole day in the airport just takes the life out of you. Anytime I check into a SOHO house I can always count on feeling like I am actually at home. They are such a different type of hospitality group and they just get it. They get how to make you feel like you don’t want to leave. They understand the importance of rituals and making each moment feel thoughtful and cared about. What separates any great meal, or amazing hotel room from the other is always in the details. And details abound here. Each deliberate and purposefully curated detail has obviously been painstakingly sourced from local artisans and craftspeople who are still making things with love and living life in a slower way. For dinner we ate at the hotel restaurant called Cecconi’s, don’t come for me I know there are a billion “real” Italian restauarants to choose from but this was actually a detour for us on our next stop and its actually incredibly hard to get reservations in Rome! Having said that… the food was impeccable! It was our first real taste of Italian pizza, even though we ate some back in Rapallo, this one hit different when it comes from that wood fired oven. Day 2: Today was a reset day, we just took full advantage of all the amenities, which included a lovely breakfast on the rooftop, catching up on some work (aka taking advantage of the great WiFi here, which is actually pretty rare in Europe), catching up on laundry, and just giving ourselves some time to rest and ready ourselves for the next leg of our journey. We used this time also to actually plan where and want we want to do for the rest of this trip, which now that I write this is crazy to think we literally don’t know where we will stay next! We hunted for a reservation high and low but couldn’t find one to save our lives. We ended up going to this place Sparky found that had 50 million reviews and a reputation for no reservations required and the pics looked good so off we went to Tonnarello in the Trastevere part of Rome. While it was tasty, it wasn’t quite the authentic Italian cuisine we were hoping for, but the meatballs were in fact the best, juiciest, most tender meatballs I’ve ever encountered. It’s so tough to know which places have good reviews because tourists love it and which ones are the places where the locals love. Day 3: We took a tour with a guide that our hotel recommended, and wow did we get more than we could have ever imagined. Daniele our tour guide was enthusiastic, so insightful, and knowledgeable, and knew all the insider tricks that only a local would know. He was able to take us to all of the biggest attractions in only 3 hours. He would pull his little golf car up as close as you can get so we would only have to walk a few steps and then bam, the coliseum. Or bam, the Trevi fountains. I cannot recommend Daniele from Roman Roads Tours enough, please go and ask for him, you will not regret it! romanroadstours.com We headed to Taverna Agape for dinner which our tour guide called the owner as our tour was ending just because we told him we really wanted to have a good authentic Italian meal, and this place is usually booked up, but he called in a favor for us and it was so worth it. We absolutely loved each thing that came out of that kitchen and its no surprise why he proposed to his girlfriend at this same restaurant. Afterwards we walked down to this Gelateria that he also recommended where I ate the best gelato of my life at Gelateria del Teatro. U guys I was not ready. Not ready to taste that, and never ready for it to be gone. So with that our trip came to an end.
